The use of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) for attracting honeybee swarms

In 1629 John Parkinson, an English herbalist, wrote of the use of "balme" (Melissa) for attracting swarms; Virgil had also mentioned this use for "crushed balm". Records show that Melissa oil was apparently used as a swarm attractant in the 1930s.
