The apples were held in 11.5% CO2 at RH 20% and 15 deg C from 10 to 27 October, and then in 5-5.5% CO2 + 5% O2 at 3.5 deg permanently, or until 2 November when some fruit were transferred to conventional cold stores at 4 deg C and RH 92%. Fruit treated with high CO2 and then kept in the cold store were still in good condition in April when they were crisp, juicy and yellow, and showed no breakdown.
