Unicellular parasites of insect pests in Bulgaria. I. Composition and distribution of Sporozoa and Microsporidia in grain storehouse insect pests



Acta Zoologica Bulgarica 20: 26-37



Eleven species of Protozoa were found in 13 species of insects in Bulgaria. These are listed with their host(s) and brief morphological data and illustrations are provided in some cases. The highest numbers of protozoans were found in Tribolium castaneum, T. confusum and Tenebrio obscurus which are widespread storehouse pests in Bulgaria. Nosema whitei, Farinocystis tribolii and Gregarina steini were common to all 3.
