Use of bromhexine to treat bronchopneumonia in dogs and cats

Use of bromhexine to treat bronchopneumonia in dogs and cats

Veterinarski Glasnik 33(10): 801-803

ISSN/ISBN: 0350-2457

Bromhexine was used successfully in 121 dogs (2-5 ml daily) and 23 cats (1-2 ml daily), in conjunction with antibiotics and normal therapy. No undesirable effects were observed. It was used for severe and persistent coughing, and in every case where dry croaking was determined by auscultation. In less severe cases it was given for 4-6 days, making the cough moist, improving breathing and restoring normal temperature and alertness. In severe and chronic cases it was given for up to a fortnight.
