2. Cornish X White Rock broiler chickens in 4 groups of 256 were fed on starting and finishing feeds without beef tallow or with 4, 7 or 10%. Metabolizable energy (ME) was about 2900, 3100, 3250 and 3400 kcal/kg feed. In starting feed ME was 134, 152, 159 and 171, and in finishing feed 150, 161, 176 and 195 kcal per 1% crude protein. Liveweight at 8 weeks, groups in order as above, was 1613, 1577, 1369 and 1581 g and feed intake was 2.65, 2.65, 2.94 and 2.81 kg/kg gain.
