A total of 103 500 White Cornish X White Rock chickens were given a commercial feed in which 3 or 4% of ground maize was replaced by similar amounts of beef tallow. Liveweight at 8 weeks of age was 1.25 with no fat, 1.35 with 3% fat only in finishing feed, 1.36 with 3% fat in starting and finishing feeds, 1.40 with 4% fat in finishing feed and 1.59 kg with 4% fat in starting and finishing feeds. Feed intake/kg gain was, in the same order, 2.80, 2.55, 2.47, 2.52 and 2.17 kg.
