Variability for protein and fibre content in three diallels of maize for silage production

Variability for protein and fibre content in three diallels of maize for silage production

Improvement of quality traits of maize for grain and silage use: 135-153

F1 hybrids from crosses between early, midseason and late inbreds were evaluated at three localities in 1977 and at two localities in 1978. General combining ability values for protein and fibre content were, with few exceptions, significant. Of the inbreds tested, relatively high protein percentages were produced by Mv141, Oh43, B37 and W64A, while low fibre contents were produced by A495, H98, H99, B37 and B73.
