Variability for protein and fibre content in three maize diallels for forage production

Variability for protein and fibre content in three maize diallels for forage production

Improvement of quality traits of maize for grain silage use: 133-153

In diallels amongst lines in each of three maturity groups studied in 1977-1978, general combining ability estimates were significant for protein and fibre contents. Some lines combined high protein content and low fibre content. Within a given maturity group, there was no correlation between dry matter yield and fibre content, but the two characters were positively correlated in all the material taken as a whole. Dry matter yield was negatively correlated with protein content.
