Variability in milk casein content in relation to availability of protein, phosphorus and sulphur in the diet

Cows were fed on diets with protein at 80, 100 or 110 g/feed unit. Average daily yield was 9.1, 9.3 and 10.4 kg of milk with 3.12, 3.26 and 3.34% total casein. Percentage of fat in milk also increased as dietary protein content was increased. In another experiment cows were given for 30 days diets with phosphorus 3.5 or 4.5 g/feed unit. Average daily milk yield was 6% greater and milk fat and protein were 0.24 and 0.26 percentage units greater with the greater concentration of P.
