Variability of Xanthomonas citri (Hasse) Dow. on the Argentine Littoral

Variability of Xanthomonas citri (Hasse) Dow. on the Argentine Littoral

Fitopatologia 15(2): 7-12

Four citrus isolates of X. citri were inoculated into orange, Citrus limon, C. jambhiri, lemon and C. reshni. Disease intensity was evaluated 30 days later from the number of lesions/cm2. Two biotypes were identified. Biotype I acidified litmus milk intensely (even with lactose), was gelatinous in agar-Wakimoto and was highly aggressive towards all the C. spp. Biotype II hardly acidified litmus milk (with glucose only), was creamy in agar-Wakimoto and was less virulent to all the C. spp.
