Variability of the heterotic effect in diallel maize hybrids under different environmental conditions

The extent of heterosis for several useful characters in single interline hybrids was analysed under different environmental conditions. Heterosis was observed for all the characters studied except number of grain rows. As a rule, hybrids with the highest percentage of heterosis had a line with high general combining ability (GCA) as one of its parents.
