Variability of wheat yellow rust and closely related rust populations on wild Gramineae in the Alma-Ata district

Variability of wheat yellow rust and closely related rust populations on wild Gramineae in the Alma-Ata district

Izvestiya Akademii Nauk Kazakhskoi SSR, Biologicheskaya (6): 73-79

The population morphology of Puccinia striiformis on 5 wheat cvs. was compared with closely related forms of rust on 18 spp. of wild Gramineae. Reliable differences between natural populations were revealed by statistical treatment where diagnostic symptoms were difficult to estimate by the usual method of description. The main features of natural rust populations were stable. Morphological characters of P. striiformis on wheat were correlated with its specialization.
