Variability studies for petiole angle and leaf size in induced mutants of the two species of jute (Corchorus capsularis L. & C. olitorius L.)

Studies were made on 21 radiation-induced mutants of C. capsularis 'D154' and 15 of C. olitorius 'CG'. All but one of the mutants of D154 and all but three of those of CG possessed larger petiole angles than the respective initial varieties C40 and 0-12 (seg) having the widest angle in each group respectively. Mutants 0-32, 0-33 and 0-37 (seg) from CG had both longer and wider leaves than CG while others had shorter, narrower leaves.
