Variability studies in radish (Raphanus sativus L.)



South Indian Horticulture 28(3): 77-81



Analysis of data on nine traits from 36 forms grown in the monsoon season and the following summer revealed that (1) most variation occurred for weight of tops, root yield and leaf area, while low variation occurred for number of days to maturity, (2) tops : root ratio had the highest genotypic coefficient of variation, followed by top weight, root yield, leaf number and root length, (3) in both seasons, heritability estimates were highest for number of days to maturity, (4) heritability estimates were higher in the summer than in the monsoon season and (5) a selection index based on top weight and root length is the most reliable.
