Variation in cowpea following hybridization and mutagenesis

The seeds of the F1 generation of a cross between S488 and Mississippi Purple were treated with ethyl methanesulphonate and were sown in the field together with untreated seed of the F1. These and successive generations were evaluated for the number of pods per plant, the number of seeds per pod and the seed weight per plant.
