About 60 cows in 1st lactation were divided into 2 groups. Group A received normal concentrate rations, less than or equal to 7 kg/day, but Group B received only less than or equal to 4 kg/day, together with silage ad lib. and 1 kg hay/day. Av. content of free fatty acids (FFA) in fresh milk did not differ significantly between Groups A and B, but after storage for 2 days at 3 deg C Group B's milk had a significantly higher FFA content than Group A's milk.
