Two clones of M. sativa 'Gabes', five of M. sativa 'Europe', three of M. media 'Franken Neu' three of M. media 'Grimma' and one of M. media '1552' were studied at 17, 22 and 27 deg C. The clones were chosen largely for their high, average or low pollen fertility, assessed in plants grown in the greenhouse at about 20 deg C. In all the material, the quantity of pollen produced per flower was correlated with the percentage of fertile pollen, assessed by staining.
