Six high-yielding varieties of this essential oil crop have been produced in the USSR, viz. Krymchanka, Yuzhanka Balkhanka, Slavyanka, Olimp and Evrika Some of them contain up to 70% citral and others up to 65% linalool in the essential oil. They have open flowering, although in natural conditions A. balchanorum and other species of the subgenus Seriphidium show cleistogamy.
