Variation in quantitative characters induced by X-rays on mature embryos of rice (O. sativa L.)

A study was made of heading date, height and four yield components in a total of 5925 third-generation plants derived from embryos of IR8 that had been irradiated with X-ray doses of 7.5, 10.0, 12.5 or 15.0 kR. Shifts in mean values and increases in variance indicated that polygene mutation was mostly unidirectional.
