Variation in susceptibility among colony strains of Culex tritaeniorhynchus to Japanese encephalitis virus infection

The susceptibility to Japanese encephalitis virus of 8 strains of Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles (7 from Japan and 1 from Taiwan) was studied quantitatively by the membrane-feeding technique. Six strains (from Honshu, Kyushu and Okinawa) showed moderate susceptibility to the virus. A strain from Amami I. was slightly more susceptible than the moderate strains and 6 times as susceptible as the Taiwan strain.
