Variation in the morphological and biological characters of eggplant in relation to growing conditions

Among the five varieties studied at nine sites in the USSR, those of Solanum melongena had the longest growth period in the Ukraine and Chechen-Ingush ASSR and the shortest in Uzbekistan, while that of S. integrifolium had the longest in the Chechen-Ingush ASSR and the shortest in Dagestan. Considerable variation was noted in leaf size and shape, the smallest leaves being found in Uzbekistan.
