Variation in the qualitative characters of soyabean

Variation in characters including seed shape and colour, pod shape and colour, growth habit (determinate or indeterminate) and type of stem apex was studied in a number of varieties during 1967-69 under normal and short-day conditions. Varieties with a projecting stem apex tended to be indeterminate while those with a hidden apex were generally determinate. In short days, indeterminate varieties tended to show determinate habit, especially those of the semicultivated type.
