Variation in the sexual activity of Aragon ewes during seasonal anoestrus. Effects of age, climate and the presence of rams

Variation in the sexual activity of Aragon ewes during seasonal anoestrus. Effects of age, climate and the presence of rams

9th International Congress on Animal Reproduction and Artificial Insemination, 16th-20th June, 1980 III Symposia free communications: 127

The flock studied was managed so as to lamb 3 times in 2 yr. Plasma progesterone concentrations were determined at intervals of 10 days during a period that included the months from Feb. to May. At the end of this period, rams were introduced to 50% of the ewes. Of the ewes found to be cycling during each 10-day period, the percentage that had lambed once, twice and more than or equal to 3 times was 10.7 plus or minus 4.4, 36.6 plus or minus 16.8 and 55.3 plus or minus 14.18 resp. (P <0.01).
