Variation in the temperature resistance of vegetative parts of Scots pine during the annual cycle

Variation in the temperature resistance of vegetative parts of Scots pine during the annual cycle

Trudy Instituta Ekologii Rastenii i Zhivotnykh (116): 98-109

Measurements of (a) heat resistance and (b) cold resistance were made on shoots and buds from 45-60-yr-old trees growing near Sverdlovsk, USSR, by a conductimetric method described earlier. Values of (a) increased rapidly in June-Aug. to reach their max. in Sept. (52 deg C in buds, 49 deg C in shoots) with no major decrease until April; (b) increased gradually to a max. value (equiv. to -40 deg C for both tissues) in Dec.-Jan., followed by a slow decrease.
