Variation in vitamin A, carotene and vitamin E in plasma and milk from Holstein and F1 (Holstein X zebu) cows during lactation and gestation. Relation with values in their calves

Blood and milk samples were taken from 24 Holstein and 24 Holstein X zebu cows monthly during 10 months. Samples from each calf were taken at birth and 15 days later. There was no significative variation in vitamin A, carotenes and tocopherol during lactation in Holstein cows. Values for vitamin A were from 21.1 to 30 mu g/ml, carotenes were from 734 to 1081 mu g/100 ml and tocopherol from 0.61 to 0.72 mg/100 ml.
