Variation of nonstructural carbohydrates in varieties and individual plants of Italian ryegrass. IV. Differences among individuals



Journal of Japanese Society of Grassland Science 27(1): 10-17



Total nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) of the lamina and stem was measured for (1) 24 plants of each of Tottorizairai Waseaoba and Hitachiaoba 60 days after emergence in the autumn; and (2) the main stem and primary tiller (treated as clones) of 14 plants of each of the first two varieties, 85 days, after emergence. In experiment I, the variation in NSC% within varieties was high, e.g. 7.3-22.8% in Tottorizairai.
