Variations in hatchability and hatching time, and the heritability of hatching time in the coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch

Variations in hatchability and hatching time, and the heritability of hatching time in the coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch

Bulletin of the National Research Institute of Aquaculture, Japan (1): 21-28

Nine males and 30 females , imported from the USA, were mated in a hierarchical system. Hatchability was 0-91.3% for 30 batches (average = 46.2%), and was <10% for 9 batches. It was not significantly affected by size of female , av. egg weight or density, or position in the incubator. For the 21 batches with hatchability >20%, av. hatching time ranged from 64.9 plus or minus 3.0 to 69.1 plus or minus 2.3 days, and the duration of hatching from 6 to 21 days.
