Variations in nutritive value of cocksfoot hay during a three year storage period

Variations in nutritive value of cocksfoot hay during a three year storage period

Journal of Japanese Society of Grassland Science 25(4): 367-371

Nutritive value of baled 1st cut cocksfoot hay cut in 1973 was investigated during a 36-month period of barn storage. Hay m.c. after 1 month was 17.0% and this decreased to 13.7% after 10 months and then increased again to 16.1% after 36 months. Cell wall and acid detergent fibre contents decreased by rates of 1.56 and 0.48%/yr, resp., but digestible energy, digestible CP, TDN and the digestibilities of components were not affected by storage.
