Variations in the pathogenesis of waterfowl influenza virus infections: enteric infections in ducks, respiratory infections in turkeys and nephrosis in chickens

Inapparent infections with shedding of virus in faeces were established in Pekin ducks under experimental conditions, using an avian influenzavirus isolated from a wild duck and administered by aerosol. Extensive viral replication in the lower intestinal tract in columnar epithelial cells was demonstrated, with much less in the respiratory tract.
