Variegated cutworm: leaf consumption and economic loss in peppermint

Variegated cutworm: leaf consumption and economic loss in peppermint

Journal of Economic Entomology 734: 607-608

Peridroma saucia (Hb.) is an important pest of peppermint (Mentha piperita) and other plants and crops in the north-eastern USA. The feeding injury on peppermint occurs during 3-4 weeks in July and early August, just before harvest, when oil is forming in the glands on the leaf surface. The amount of foliage consumed has a direct relationship to the amount of oil lost.
