Varietal differences of photosynthetic efficiency and dry matter production in indica rice

Conditions for measuring NAR of isolated plants were established and used to assess 301 of indica rice. The frequency distribution of NAR was about normal with IR8 close to the middle point. The distribution of NAR was shown to be stable and independent of growth season, whether wet or dry, and NAR was associated with specific leaf wt. (r = 0.56-0.72), N content (r = 0.75) and RGR (r = 0.39). Specific leaf wt. (SLW) was associated with N content (r = 0.91-0.95).
