Varietal differences of wheat plants in photosynthetic pigments contents and activities under different levels of nitrogen

In pot trials in 1972, 1973 and 1975, the local wheat Giza 55 and the Mexican dwarf Super X and Shenab 70 were given 0, 30 or 60 kg N/feddan. At heading the chloroplast contents of chlorophyll, protein and carotenoid, chlorophyll stability and photosynthetic activity were significantly higher in the Mexican and were greatly increased by increasing N application.
