Varietal diversity of spring wheats in photochemical activity of the chloroplasts

Varietal diversity of spring wheats in photochemical activity of the chloroplasts

Byulleten' Vsesoyuznogo Ordena Lenina i Ordena Druzhby Narodov Instituta Rastenievodstva Imeni N I Vavilova (87): 36-40

In a study of 64 varieties belonging to six species (2x, 4x and 6x), including 49 bread wheats, the highest photochemical activity (PA) was shown by chloroplasts of the evolutionarily least advanced species, Triticum monococcum. PA decreased with increasing ploidy. Among the bread wheats, a negative correlation was found between PA and duration of the emergence-heading period (r = 0.66).
