Varietal resistance of cotton to the spider mite

Varietal resistance of cotton to the spider mite

Zashchita Rastenii (8): 25

Since pest reproduction is one measure of plant resistance, the fecundity of the red spider mite on different varieties of cotton was investigated in the cotton-growing region of the USSR. The mean number of eggs laid per female was found to be 51-65 on 4 varieties, 39-30 on 5 others, and 24-29 on 4 others. Members of this third group could be classified as moderately resistant. However, it was only 15 on two more, which were therefore held to be highly resistant.
