Varietal resistance of wheat to powdery mildew

Varietal resistance of wheat to powdery mildew

Acta Phytopathologica Sinica 12(2): 7-14

When conidia of Erysiphe graminis f.sp. tritici were inoculated on wheat seedings c. 60% germinated and formed appressoria within 8 h. The percentage and rate of germination on the leaf surface of resistant and susceptible cvs. showed no difference at the early stage of infection. The earliest penetration occurred in the highly susceptible group 12 h after inoculation, when 83% of germinated conidia penetrated within 36 h. Fewer germinated conidia penetrated leaves of resistant cvs.
