Of some 500 rice varieties screened during 1977, KH998, Kulu, Calrose, KHlh351 and Fujisaka 5 were among the most promising, giving satisfactory grain yields (5.32-9.6 t/ha; KH998, 9.6 t/ha) in the cold season.
