The authors discuss the cytospecies of the complex of Simulium damnosum Theo. incriminated in the transmission of Onchocerca volvulus, the pathogen of human onchocerciasis, by D. B. Blacklock in his classic work in 1926 and 1927. The authors briefly review the evidence available, part of which derives from a visit made by them to the Tumbodu region of Sierra Leone, the area in which Blacklock worked.
