Hybrids with high yield were often derived from parents with a highly developed vascular system in the flag leaf. For example, high values for yield components, especially grain weight per plant, 1000-grain weight and number of grains per ear, were shown under drought conditions during spring-summer, 1979, by Dneprovskaya 775 X Magnif.
