In trials in 1975-7, spring barley Adora and durum wheat Produr were sown at rates of 100, 200, 400, 800 or 1600 seeds/m2 and 150, 300, 600, 1200 or 2400 seeds/m2, resp. Increasing sowing rate resulted in a linear decrease in number of stems and ears/m2, ear length and number and wt. of seeds/ear; 1000-grain wt. also decreased.
