The use of strains of the fungus Verticillium lecanii to control insect pests of greenhouse crops is reviewed. Experiments currently in progress include a programme of 2 applications against aphids on ornamental plants in the UK, spraying with wettable-powder formulations against Myzus persicae (Sulz.) on potato in Peru, and combination of the fungus with the natural parasite Encarsia formosa Gah. against aleyrodids in Europe, the USA and Latin America.
