A glucuronyltransferase involved in glucuronoxylan synthesis in pea (Pisum sativum) epicotyls

A glucuronyltransferase involved in glucuronoxylan synthesis in pea (Pisum sativum) epicotyls

Biochemical Journal 213(1): 115-122

A particulate enzyme preparation made from epicotyls of 1 wk-old etiolated pea seedlings was shown to incorporate glucuronic acid from UDP-d-lucuronic acid into a hemicellulosic polysaccharide. Opt. conditions for the incorporation included the presence of Mn2+ ions at 4-10 mmol/litre and pH 5-6. UDP-d-xylose at 1 mmol/litre allowed incorporation to continue for at least 8 h. In its absence, the reaction stopped within 30 min.
