A granulosis virus in the pine caterpillar

A granulosis virus in the pine caterpillar

Weishengwuxue Tongbao 9(1): 3-4

In recent years, 2 epizootic virus diseases have been found affecting Dendrolimus spectabilis (Btlr.) in Shangdong, China. The agent responsible for the one referred to as 'atrophic' is thought to be a new cytoplasmic virus. Details are given of the agent causing the 2nd type of epizootic, referred to as the 'liquified' type. Infected larvae did not feed, and were sluggish and flaccid. Dead individuals hung by their legs and the internal tissues liquified.
