A growth promoting agent for Pityrosporum produced by some species of Staphylococcus

A growth promoting agent for Pityrosporum produced by some species of Staphylococcus

Japanese Journal of Medical Mycology 23(3): 240-245

When various S. spp. were inoculated onto agar plates seeded previously with P. pachydermatis, marked stimulation of the background growth of the fungus was observed around colonies of S. simulans and S. sciuri subsp. sciuri but this activity was weak or absent in other spp. tested. The addition of 100 ng/ml nicotinic acid to the medium resulted in the disappearance of the satellite phenomenon by the full growth of M. pachydermatis throughout the plate.
