During an investigation of high-performance liquid-chromatographic analysis as a means of exploring the possible association of alpha -tocopherol with muscle disease in horses, it became evident that the serum level in Thoroughbreds is only a quarter to one third of that in man. Also, there was a significant difference between mean levels in racehorses (2.6 mu g/ml) and riding horses (3.3 mu g/ml).
