A karyotypic analysis of the black fly Wilhelmia equina bianchii in relation to its taxonomic status

A karyotypic analysis of the black fly Wilhelmia equina bianchii in relation to its taxonomic status

Tsitologiya 25(5): 610-613

The morphological features of the polytene chromosomes of salivary gland nuclei were studied in late larvae of Simulium equinum bianchii Rubtsov (Wilhelmia equina bianchii) from the USSR in order to assess the status of this taxon in relation to the nominate form of S. equinum (L.) (W. equina). The length of chromosomes I-III is tabulated, and the main features of each are described.
