A map of research expectations and directions in rural sociology

A map of research expectations and directions in rural sociology

Rural Sociologist 3(5): 331-338

The future direction of rural sociological research in the USA is discussed. Research programmes are currently being evaluated for funding according to the criteria of scientific/technical merit, application potential, competency of the researcher, consistency of the mission of the agency, and for the likely consequences. In the agricultural sciences this tilt is towards a greater emphasis on scientific merits.
