International Journal of Water Resources Development 1(1): 16-49



The arid desert environment of the State of Qatar is notably harsh and deficient in several important resources, such as water and fertile land, which other countries tend to take for granted. However, the exploitation of Qatar's oil and gas reserves during the last two decades has instigated many changes, not least of which is the large increase in population coupled with a hign per caput rise in demand for many commodities.
