A mathematical model of a mildew population on a varietal mixture of barley

A formula is presented which is based on: (1) two parameters determining the number of infections per plant of a given variety, namely the rate of sporulation of a given pathotype for a single infection site on a leaf and the proportion of its spores able to infect the variety; (2) two parameters for spore dispersal, namely the percentage of viable spores and the frequency of autoinfection; and (3) the leaf area of the given variety as a percentage of that of the varietal mixture.
