A method for determining vigour in winter wheat seeds

Seeds of wheat were imbibed for 48 h before being placed in filter paper rolls and kept in the dark at 20 deg C and 80-90% RH vertically for 96 h. Seedlings were divided into non-germinated or abnormal seedlings and those of poor vigour (0.5-2 cm in length or <33% of the length of the 10 longest seedlings), those of medium vigour (2-4 cm in length of 33-67% of the length of the 10 longest seedlings) and those of high vigour (>4 cm in length or longer than 67% of the 10 longest seedlings).
