A method for the objective assessment of selected performance characters of Mutton Merino ewes

A method for the objective assessment of selected performance characters of Mutton Merino ewes

Wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift der Wilhelm Pieck Universitat Rostock, Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe 31(1): 49-51

Wool fineness was measured on samples from the flank and from other body sites of 574 German Mutton Merino females aged 3-60 months. The correlation between fineness of wool from the flank and the av. fineness of the fleece ranged from 0.90 to 0.96, the mean value being 0.93. The value was not significantly affected by age or flock.
